Sunday, June 23

Yesterday started with our meeting at the steps highlighted by Coach O’Donnell’s talk to the boys about relationships, the word of the day. Coach emphasized the importance of developing and preserving trust among team members. This is the time of camp when the newness has worn off; campers are more familiar with their surroundings and counselors are realizing the importance and challenge of sustaining a high level of energy to lead and mentor campers. Campers played three rounds of games and participated in two sessions of Tiger Team (age-based) games and clinics. They enjoyed tchoukball, kickball, and wiffle ball games along with the instructional, yet active, session on track. We competed in outdoor and indoor games with our teams. One highlight was an overtime win in hockey. Our day was concluded with the Counselor Draft. Boys self-selected new groups for our trip to Kings Dominion. This is an opportunity for campers to reconnect with old friends and invite new friends into the mix for a day of fun. We tried a new tactic this year forming teams. It was the best day of team selection we’ve had in three years since all campers were brought into a new group within minutes. Campers and counselors demonstrated the value of inclusiveness in our team culture. Success! Tonight, the day concluded with the Counselor Draft. Each Kings Dominion team selected their favorite counselors to escort them around the park. We treated the event like an NBA lottery and the boy-selected teams made two rounds of selections. Coach Carrington did an amazing job MC-ing the event. We have enjoyed  beautiful weather during our days together and a wonderful sense of camaraderie, competition and fun!
