Thursday July 4

As our time together is winding down, the competition has ramping up.  The final championship games will be played today. The first of the 8 title games was on the lacrosse field as #1 seed UNC took on #3 seed ND.  The game was very competitive, but UNC took on a lead early and never let go.  We moved on to the softball field for a highly anticipated match-up between #1 seed UGA versus #2 seed ND.  The boys did not disappoint the many campers and coaches who watched.  The Bulldogs had bases loaded with no outs in the bottom of the 6th inning down 6-5.  The Irish stopped the potential flood of runs with 3 straight outs to hold on for a 7-5 win.  We moved inside for a combination of handball and hockey in the 3rd and 4th championships.  #1 ND faced #2 UVA in handball taking an early 5-1 lead and never turning back to walk away with their second win of the day 12-7.  Hockey has been a hot sport all camp as LSU went from losing all 4 of their regular season games to go on a playoff run to the title game.  The Purple Tigers completed the dream run as the #8 seed and defeated #2 seed UNC 4-2.  Earlier in the day #1 seed UVA earned a spot in the final by defeating #4 seed ND in the semi final game 40-31.  UVA capped our night with a thrilling over-time win over #3 LSU.  LSU fought back from a formidable second half deficit to tie the game with 8 seconds left on a brave 3 point shot.  It was UVA's team defense that took over in over-time to seal the win 66-53 in a game that was very well played and enjoyed by many campers and counselors.  We are hoping that the weather continues to cooperated on our final day of competitions as we will finish camp with #5 ND facing #6 in soccer, #4 ND taking on #7 UNC in dodgeball, and #3 LSU battling #4 ND in football.  Happy 4th of July from Woodberry!  All of the campers are very excited to see their parents, but not so excited to see out time in The Forest come to a close!  For pictures of Wednesday's games, please click here.
