Opening Day

Our campers arrived today and enthusiastically jumped into the busy schedule of our first day together.  We played icebreaker games to learn the names of our teammates and talked about the daily routine of games, laundry, and meals that will keep Sports Camp running smoothly.  We also discussed safety issues and courtesy as we live in community with each other and the broader Woodberry family. We have a large group of new campers, whom the more experienced campers agreed to help and mentor, especially during the first days of camp.
Teams spent time at each sport learning or reviewing the rules of the game followed by a scrimmage with another team to begin working together and thinking about game strategies. The high level of counselor energy and camper effort during scrimmages were strong indicators that this is going to be an exciting three weeks of competition. We concluded the evening with snack on dorm and the first Tiger Team Culture meeting. The concept of the night was "Team Culture." Teams spent time getting to know one another and discussing team norms, such as, how they want to communicate with one another, demonstrate respect, hold each other accountable to their values and how to help each other move on from mistakes and enjoy competition. Counselors learned strategies to help every camper engage in discussions and feel an important member of their team. Our first day of camp was a terrific beginning to our Sports Camp journey together. For more pictures click here
